table of contents alert 18: urban edition

A compilation of a lot of papers recent I found interesting having to do with urban ecology. Bird papers have been added to my urban bird bibliography (Word doc); this is non-bird stuff.

As an aside, does anyone else have mixed feelings about the availability of journal papers prior to "print" publication (or whatever the final product may be)? Many journals make these available -- not only ahead of print publication, but sometimes even corrected proofs or even papers accepted and still in review and subject to change. I have waited months (going on a year, still, for some papers) for some papers to actually be "published." I wonder what has happened to some of them. Did they get changed substantially? Withdrawn?  I sort of feel that online pre-publication material should be limited to final versions that will appear in the next journal issue.

I agree that a paper should not appear online until it is in its final form. Otherwise it could cause trouble for people who quote or cite the online version.
