why I blog about birds
For the first anniversary of I and the Bird, Mike at 10000 Birds has asked bloggers to write about why we blog about birds.
While I actually intended this blog to be an outlet for writing about everything but birds (which I frequently do professionally), my love for these animals has not only snuck in to Bootstrap, but permeates it. Why do I end up blogging about birds? So I can...
- Share magic moments in the field.
- Offer a window into a forbidden land with incredible endemic species.
- Foster greater appreciation of common birds nesting in backyards, or visiting winter feeders.
- Help others understand misunderstood species.
- Bring to light the fact that we are losing our birds: those that grace autumn skies across much of North America, that flood our eastern beaches, and those rarely seen at the top of the world.
- Help folks become good bird landlords and avoid being foster parents.
- Illustrate the genius of evolution in common and not-so-common birds.
- Provide a little insight into the lives of birds people don't often see, both the quietly shy or frustratingly elusive.
- Ponder the many ways in which birds touch my life.
Who can resist celebrating that which we love and find so endlessly fascinating? Apparently, not me.

all the reasons I expected to read from you.. let the celebration continue :)
